Artists representing the peak of Japanese fireworks from all over the country compete for the coveted title at this national fireworks competition. Dating back to 1910 as a contest during the annual ceremony at Suwa Shrine, over the years Omagari has gained a prestigious reputation worldwide through overseas displays and the hosting of the 16th International Symposium on Fireworks. Every year hanabi artists gather to personally fire their own displays, each team putting forward their proudest work. With the Omono River running in the foreground and sweeping mountain ranges in the distance, the riverbank seating is an ideal location to appreciate the overwhelming display of light and sound. Headlining with Omagari, the area is now known as Hanabi Town and hosts a breathtaking monthly lineup of fireworks all year round.
